The Occupational and Environmental Health (OEH) Program in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University addresses the workplace health and safety needs of College faculty, staff, and students, and environmental stewardship of College farms and greenhouses. One area of program emphasis is the proper management of pesticides. Program staff conduct pesticide applicator training and provide assistance with pesticide handling and storage, record keeping, reporting, regulatory interpretation and environmental management. A second OEH Program emphasis is farm safety, with recent programs to revise College farm equipment operation policies and to upgrade rollover protective structures on tractors. The Program also provides assistance with a variety of other safety, health and environmental issues, including nutrient management practices for greenhouses and farms, emergency preparedness, material recycling and waste disposal, biological hazards, and other specialized safety issues found in agricultural research.
